Ultra160 32-bit Driver v7.5.645.100 for Windows 7 & 2008R2 Home Support. Estimated Download Time: Modem (56k). Adaptec SCSI Card 29160. Hello, I have a scsi controller (dawi 2976 uw) and I would like to load the drivers that I have downloaded from the dawicontrol site. The problem is that win7 do not see any drivers in the downloads f.

Hello Bill, You may be one of the many that will have to wait for Windows 7 to be released so these vendors can make sure that it is not the driver support. Sorry to say but most of my interaction with Dell and a couple other vendors like Creative have said the same thing. That it was not the hardware fault but the fault of something in Windows 7. But yet with a few work around i got all my hardware working now. So it appears that it was drivers. At least on my end.

It may be Windows 7 doesnt like SCSI drives at this time. It may not allow for a install directly to them. I can not speak for sure on this matter.

But since you can not get it installed i will submit feedback giving them all the information you just posted up. That way Microsoft can work and see if it is something in Windows that is preventing it from installing and get it corrected in later builds. Here is a screenshot for you just to show you that i did send it for you. Regards, ~Alex T.~ ~Windows Desktop Experience MVP~.

The proposed solution does not work in my case. I spent several hours with both Dell and Adaptec Technical Support troubleshooting this issue. Both vendors were confident that the 'hardware' was not at fault. In my environment, I do not have another 'disk controller' to install through/to, so the 'proposed solution' does not work for me. Trying to clean install the 32Bit Version - copied the Adaptec 29160 drivers from a 'Working Install' of Vista Ultimate. Driver Files: adpu160m.sys & adpu160m.inf The load driver option appears to load the driver and then 'sees' the disk - below are the exact 'error' messages that I receive, and I'm stopped dead in my tracks - NO INSTALL. Windows cannot be installed to this disk.

This computer’s hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk’s controller is enabled in the computer’s BIOS menu. Disk 0 Unallocated Space 279.4 GB Failed to create a new partition on the selected unused space.

I was able to install 32bit 29160n driver for windows 7 x86 but unable to locate a 64bit driver for win 7 64bit. 32bit 29160n drivers was obtained from adaptec site using win 2000 driver. This did not work for me. I have tried several drivers from the Adaptec site, as well as the one I am currently using for win2k3. None of the drivers work when booting from the DVD.

I tried to install it from within win2k3, one of the Adaptec drivers did allow 7 to see my SCSI C: drive, but the installation failed right at the end. The machine hung at 'completing setup'.

I waited 1/2 hour or so and rebooted it, and the install rolled back. I am unable to install Win7. If you check the Adaptec Knowledgebase you will find the list of supported parallel scsi cards is very short. I was running an AHA 2940U2W which has served very well for may years only to find no support under Windows 7 and no plans for support in the future, which seems to be the case for almost anything that isn't current. I tried the Vista driver, but that refused to install (Windows actually blocked it), so I have had to upgrade to the only card that supports standard 50pin SCSI2 and 68pin Ultra modes, the ASC29320A-R.

Unfortunately, this may be the route you have to take to get things working, but be wary. I have a couple of old CD-ROM drives including a quad speed Toshiba tray loader that I find can read damaged discs that modern fast drives reject. Unfortunately, these old drives are not supported by Windows 7 and cause the SCSI bus to keep resetting virtually stalling the machine when disc access is required. Disabling the drives in device manager helps most of the time, but now and again the bus will go into the reset loop and the only way out is to reboot.
