The settings is interesting, your typical high-fantasy setting with elves, orcs, dwarves, gnomes, humans etc, but undergoing tremendous changes due to an industrial revolution. Magic and Technology don't mix well, in lore as well as in gameplay mechanics, so pick your side and jump in!
Basically one of my favourite RPGs, it has his own Deus Ex-esque problem solving approach depending on your character's strengths and weaknesses. For instance, being able to read NPCs' alignments lets you figure out who's lying when you get conflicting reports, being able to summon the spirit of the dead to chat with them might be helpful on a crime investigation. Basically one of the few RPGs that FORCE you to roleplay. Your skills aren't just here to answer the question 'how do you kill enemies?' Like in Elder Scrolls games, they actually have a large impact on problem solving and your overall open-world experience.

The soundtrack was made by a quartet, it grew on me incredibly rapidly. Cities have their own internal and external politics showing complex struggles of power between city-states but also internal gangs or bourgeoisie trying to strengthen their influence. Also one of the few games I've played that doesn't use quest markers but gives you proper addresses (go to 121 Mulligan Bone Alley in Tarant), so you actually feel like you're in an unfamiliar gigantic city until you get more familiar with it as you climb up the ladder. Fairly amazing game, flawed combat, meh balance but it's a singleplayer game so I don't think it's that much of an issue.
Can someone report back on the steam version quality? If the Steam version is bad, which I wouldn't be surprised by, then this has been on GOG for years and it runs very well.
Oh and just a heads up for people playing this for the first time. The first storyline dungeon area is very broken for most builds. It's honestly the worst part of the game and I wouldn't be surprised that most people stop playing the game here.
